Member ProfileOUR SHAARE TEFILAH FAMILY LILLIAN MILLER ![]() TST member Lillian
Miller has been making music for a long time. The Boston
music school which she attended for two years after high school is no longer there. But Lillian's lifelong love of music continues. Born and raised in Dorchester, Lillian met a handsome young boy who lived on her street when she was about fourteen. His name was Daniel Miller. Danny left to enlist in the Air Force when they were in high school, during World War II. They were married when he came home on a ten-day furlough in 1945, just before he shipped out to Japan for the last six months of the war. Lillian worked at Jordan Marsh, but she kept up with her piano playing. As newlyweds, Lillian and Danny lived with her parents, due to a shortage of housing after the war. Some friends of theirs, however, had found a home in a nice little town called Norwood. Lillian and Danny liked the town and bought their first of two homes in Norwood in 1950. And they joined Temple Shaare Tefilah's growing congregation, still at its Washington Street location. Lillian recalls wonderful times at Shaare Tefilah, where she played the piano at sisterhood fashion shows. She also played the piano at nursing homes in Norwood. Danny would come along to hear her play, and he would help distribute ice cream and cookies to the patients as they listened. Lillian and Danny raised their three children, Carol, Stephen, and Neil, in Norwood. Lillian began giving private piano lessons when her own children started school. She continued giving piano lessons after Danny retired, and after they became the proud grandparents of six. Lillian's close family has seen her through her loss of Danny last year. Lillian continues to teach piano, and she has become a "regular" at our Saturday morning services at Shaare Tefilah. Lillian is a beloved member of our TST community.
